Hanging Pictures

Hanging Pictures

We’ll hang pictures or mirrors of any size and shape. Here is our general process:

Discuss Placement: We’ll talk with you about exactly where you want to hang the picture(s). If possible, we'll hold it up on the wall while you stand back and decide.

Measure and Mark: We usually measure both the wall and the back of the picture, finding the center or ideal height. Most people hang pictures at eye level, which is around 57–60 inches from the floor to the center of the piece. However, it is your creative vision where you want to hang your pictures! We use a pencil to make small marks where the hardware will go.

Check for Studs or Wires: For heavier items, we use a stud finder to locate solid wood behind drywall. However, rest assured if you have plaster walls we have the techniques to hang pictures regardless of weight. Otherwise, for lighter pictures, we’ll make sure the spot is clear of electrical wires or plumbing.

Choose the Hardware: Depending on the weight and wall type (drywall, plaster, brick, etc.), we’ll select the right hooks or anchors—simple hooks, wall anchors, or picture hangers. For really heavy artwork, we might use anchors that screw into the wall.

Install Hardware: Using a hammer or drill, we put the hardware into the wall where we marked it.

Hang the Picture: We hang the picture and use a level to make sure it’s straight. Sometimes we’ll add little rubber bumpers to the bottom corners so the frame stays put and doesn’t mark the wall.

Final Adjustment: We step back, double-check the alignment, and adjust as needed. If a picture needs to be in a group (like a gallery wall), we make sure spacing between frames looks balanced.

Cleanup: We erase or wipe off all pencil marks and clean up dust from drilling.
